Meet Our Friend, the Boloco Card!
Posted July 28th, 2010.Tweet
Many of you probably already know our good friend, the Boloco Card…you know, that pretty little piece of Sean Boyce artwork in your wallet or purse.
If this is not ringing a bell, that’s ok, you’re not too late to join this “exclusive” club. It’s really, insanely easy to join…all you have to do is swing by your local boloco and ask the cashier for a card. Once you have it, you’re in… sweet. Now what?
Well, you can start accumulating points (and freebies) and storing value right away. Just make sure we swipe your card with every purchase.
Not enough? Well, we’ve got some extra perks reserved for our VIPs.
In fact, if you want to become a “VIP” member, that’s pretty easy too. Just head to this page to register your card and “opt-in” (it will take you 2 minutes and 37 seconds).
If your card is already registered, you’re already “on the list” as a boloco VIP!
What kind of benefits do these VIPs enjoy?
Well, in addition to the ability to earn free food and load stored value, VIP status gets you:
-25 points on-the-spot (halfway to your first freebie)
-A free birthday burrito (happy birthday!)
-Guaranteed lost-card replacement (if you lose your card, your hard-earned dollars, freebies, and points won’t disappear)
-Auto reload for stored value (you can link your credit card to your account, so if your balance gets low, it gives you an automatic boost)
-Special perks (like the one you’re about to read about)
Because we couldn’t leave out our registered-card-carrying boloco fanatics, TODAY (7/29/10), all REGISTERED Boloco Card holders will get DOUBLE POINTS for any purchase at boloco. Yup, that means you’re moving twice as quickly towards your next freebie.
Snag a card and show it with pride…you will not be disappointed.
P.S. If you haven’t registered your card yet, make sure you do so by August 31st and you’ll be in line for a little surprise from your friends at boloco. In addition to a goodie for all registered card holders, we’ll have another bonus for the top 50 boloco card users during the month of August so prepare to brave the heat and head on out to boloco.
P. P. S. After two weeks of spirited (and friendly) competition and over 3,700 Cape Codder smoothies sold, the race to win a piece of the Boloco PMC Bike Fund has now come to a thrilling conclusion. We fell a few smoothies short of our outrageously-lofty goal of 4,000 sold and $1,000 raised for the Pan-Mass Challenge, but, with the finish line in sight, we’re kicking in the few extra dollars needed to make it to $1,000. After a week of passionate posts on our Facebook wall, we narrowed down the field to five deserving finalists. After yet another week of voting on boloco.com, we’re ready to provide that little fund-raising boost to these five riders.
Here are the results:
-Jen Taylor – 677 likes – $424
-Lena Joseph – 567 likes – $355
-James Scott – 148 likes – $93
-Jeffrey Charles Marcus -139 likes – $87
-Alessandra Hobler – 66 likes – $41
Congratulations to all 5 members of our “unofficial” boloco PMC team and best of luck to the thousands of riders who will pedal hundreds of miles to raise millions to fight cancer!

I basically get lunch at either Boloco or a Chinese dumpling street vendor every day, this is gonna push me in the direction of Boloco. NOM NOM NOM!
I have to agree with Matt and Lisa. Your e-mail was very confusing, and in the end, after all the hype, offered very little to people who have already registered their Boloco cards. I still love your food, though.
Let’s see…..you send me deals & funny updates via email, I got a free Birthday burrito, and you keep offering fun new special flavors, on top of the tasty list of standards. What’s there not to love really?!
*hug*
*nibble*
Sorry, awkward. But you’re tasty! I couldn’t help myself!
You guys by far have the best burritos in town. I crave them! You have me hooked, Boloco.
craving one now,..I am riding the PMC and these are fabulous after a really long training ride…see you on the cape in 2 weeks. I even had you cater my sons b’day party. Loco for Bolocco!
Good thing I forgot my lunch today, I would have some explaining to do on why it is still in my desk drawer!! Can’t wait to head over today. No worries. Lots of vacation time taken this time of year. Things will get back to normal in September ( I think).
Where’s “a chance at a little surprise”. I agree with Lisa and Matt
I absolutely love your burritos! The smoothies are to die for! Seeing this email got me hungry now!
I love that you hardly produce any waste and the waste you do produce is compost-able. The person above was right, we do not open your e-mails unless we thing we are going to get a freebie
Was pleasantly surprised to get my double points today! I like to see how much you all support causes. Sometimes I read through the emails because often I find there is something in it for me or if not, for someone else. It is not all about ME.
Might be a good idea to segregate your emails when they’re location specific. I live in the Upper Valley where there’s only 1 Boloco and it seems that fewer and fewer of your emails apply to things I’m interested in (like free food or a local fundraiser). While I appreciate your great works of charity in many places, my own interest is centered locally (thanks for your generosity with The Prouty!)
I agree that most people like reading the emails to see what deals are avaialble, free points, and so on.
As an avid customer since 2003, that’s 7 years of loyalty and delicious food!
I’ve been thinking it would be nice to have a boloco in my home town of North Reading, or even to own a franchise there. Knowing my town of 25 years I think it would be a great addition and I think it’s an unrealized market in downtown! I can only get my boloco fix when I come to Boston :/ I know you have stores near campuses and malls… but sometimes I don’t want to have to leave suburbia to get quality food.
Feel free to contact me, I have many more options I can share.
Thanks
Kate
BOLOCO is a great place! Since you came to Concord, NH, I don’t buy my burritos anyplace else. And taking into consideration that you do good byhelping others, it makes me proud to be a consumer of your restaurant.
Thanks for the donation, Boloco!
sweet! i hear a buffalo chicken wrap callin my name
I lost my wallet with my Boloco card. I got a new one from the Boloco in Burlington,VT, but your site is so impenatrable, I haven’t been able to register it. My old card should have 50 points on it, but I don’t know the card number(who would memorize such minutia?). Please e-mail me precise instructions to navigate your site & register my new card(& transfer my points from my old card). Thanks, Hap Fox.
I agree with Matt and Lisa. Very confusing. Can I “opt in” for the VIP if I already registered my card? Do I need to get another card and register it? Am I already VIP? Good burritos, though.
I’ve told you this before, and I’ll say it again: Boloco is AWESOME! I love you guys, seriously. You had me at hello. PLEASE EXPAND TO NY!!! We need you down there!
Awesome place for lunch. Great Burritos! Keepup the great work.
Congrats Jenn
Yeah… this really doesn’t do much for us registered users… Kind of a waste of my time to read this one. Oh well- I still love your food!
Does this doubling of points include online orders? Registered users could benefit from that if their card isn’t with them.
love the Cajun with chicken amazing!
I love Boloco!
Im a fan of the cajun with guacamole.
How about featuring local artists on your cards?
Like me!
Keep up the great work guys.
Just visited your Concord location which is easily the most beautiful
of all the Bolocos.
Would somebody clean up all the trash near the stream?
Its such a lovely view and needs some care.
I love your burritos and especially the smoothies. I think in order to make the cards more functional implementing a way to look up customers by phone number or name at the restaurant would be helpful. I don’t always have my card on me, which is usually fine because your online ordering system always works very well for me, but for someone else who doesn’t always have access to a computer it would be very helpful. I don’t open the emails reliably because for card holders besides the points (which are realistically only good for free food considering the amount of points you need for other prizes) and the free burrito on your birthday there isn’t much else offered besides the specific discounts which are hit or miss.
I LOVE BOLOCO!!! Freebies make it that much more enjoyable!! Thank you BOLOCO!!!
Whatever happened to your idea of opening a shop in Middlebury, VT? I sent a comment but haven’t had any feedback.
Best wishes (and looking forward to my birthday burrito).
Matt, Lisa, & co. are right. People have stopped reading your e-mails because of e-mails like this one. Confusing, very little actually offered as an incentive to go to Boloco, and a lot of banging on about fundraising. I do think it’s great that you’re into all this do-goodery, but don’t forget that people care about Boloco first and foremost because of the food. If we want to read about fundraising efforts, we’ll check out a charity or an NGO, not a fast-food chain’s latest newsletter. Focus on the food. As far as doing good, the BEST thing you can do is to continue to advance sustainable practices in your restaurants and continue to treat your employees fairly and well (the bi-lateral language training program I’ve heard about is especially impressive). Setting a good example for other businesses to follow, and showing that you can do well financially and still do right by the environment and the predominantly socioeconomically-disadvantaged people you employ does a hell of a lot more good, in the long run, than giving some money to a bike race. You don’t have to apologize for being a for-profit enterprise. Businesses have done more to lift people out of poverty than charities ever have, and have the potential to do more good for the environment as well, if paradigms like yours can be proven successful.
As far as the events, maybe it would make sense to try to break your e-distribution list into distinct geographic segments. Your Boston clientele like me do not care what event you’re putting on in Burlington, and receiving emails about it makes me less likely to open your emails in the future. As you expand (which I sincerely hope you do – Ithaca, NY, please!), it will become absolutely necessary to categorize your customers geographically, so it might make sense to start now.
Agreed. The email didn’t offer anything for loyal Boloco customers. I would suggest to scrub the mailing list against the current registered cardmembers in the future.
Most of you should care very little about what we’re about to tell you. And that is…our email “open-rate” has dipped from a robust 35% to a recent low of only 23%.
I received this e-mail and it’s the first e-mail I have received from you in a long time. That’s why I haven’t “opened” your e-mails.

This was not a very exciting e-mail, especially not to warrant a whopping 35% CTR. I want quadruple points.
i just got my b-day burrito and am thrilled! LOVE boloco and all the organic ingredients. i’m raising my kids on it!
Darn, I registered my card years ago and didn’t read your message until 5:15 pm.
No double points for this regular customer today.
Boo hoo, sobbing at home this afternoon.
I absolutely love Bolocos!!! Freebies, military discounts and amazing food makes Bolocos my favorite place to eat!!
I agree with earn- many mailings are not relevant to NH customers, so why open? Would be great to have Boloco where I live (Keene) as well as where I work.
I love you, Boloco! You’re such a great addition to Concord, NH. Eat there all the time.
I’m more time starved than food starved so reading emails and registering cards is just a pain! Sorry!
Hey – I love you guys (and gals)! Thanks for supporting Bike Fridays in Boston. Would you mind giving us more notice on your email specials? I get them at home and can’t read them until the day is over – and so is whatever special you’re offering! You’re the freshest and best value in town – keep it up!
Figures, I grabbed my fave today — large Bangkok w/steak and white rice — and forgot my card. Now I see there was a double bonus? Swell…Oh well, it was still yummy…as usual!
Bocoloco is the the best, we enjoy you Framingham and Boston! No one does burritos, fresh salsa, guacamole and smoothies quite like Bocoloco!
Bocoloco is the the best, we enjoy you in Framingham and Boston! No one does burritos, fresh salsa, guacamole and smoothies quite like Bocoloco!
Love me some buffalo chicken wraps!! the best!!
I hate getting e-mail from companies with which I am somehow registered. That said, you guys do a nice job with it. It’s even kind of endearing to hear how concerned you are about your click-through rates. I want to somehow console you, as I would a friend who worries about the waning of a partner’s infatuations. Maybe you just need to cool it a little bit; you know, don’t let yourself be taken for granted. I don’t know.
To the person who said “best burritos in town,” I assume you meant in Burlington. Because obviously in Boston it would be Anna’s. Which Boloco once admitted (tacitly) in one of these e-mails. I liked that a lot.
Why, on August 18, are you still hyping a July 29 promo? I’d say it’s time for a new one in August.
