Meet Our Friend, the Yucatan Habanero!
Posted April 28th, 2010.Tweet
We’re straight shooters. We call it like it is. When we want authentic Mexican food, we go to Mexico. We are not, have never been, will never be Mexican. It is true that about 18% of what we sell is Mexican-inspired, and while everything wrapped in a tortilla goes in the “kinda Mexican” category, boloco is globally inspired. Trendy sounding? Yep, we know… we’ve heard that before. But we don’t know any better way to put it.
So that all being said, when Cinco de Mayo rolls around every year, should we take cover and wish the day away for fear we’ll be called out as Mexican impostors??
The answer is HECK NO. In fact, for the next 2 WEEKS we’re going to celebrate by putting our friend, the Yucatan Habanero, on the pedestal. This burrito is grounded in authenticity…with tangy pickled onions, black beans, sour cream, boloco rice, and of course, our fiery hot habanero salsa (which you can add to any burrito we sell, by the way). One bite and you’ll know we did our homework on this one.
We are 100% sure that some of the skeptics will still cry foul on our claims of authenticity. No matter – this is the world we have chosen to live in. But for those of you who want to take advantage, order a Yucatan Habanero and you’ll get a bag of fresh tortilla chips and your choice of salsa or guacamole for just two bucks.
Hasta luego and Feliz Cinco de Mayo!
