In less than two weeks on July 11 I am going to try my very best to bike 100 miles in the 28th Annual Prouty Century Bike Ride to raise some pretty serious money for cancer research at Dartmouth’s Norris Cotton Cancer Center. It will also be the inaugural year of the Boloco team – the Boloco Airstreamers. At present time, team count is 1, though I hope to change that over the coming days.

If any of you have had the pleasure of my company of late, you know that 100 miles is a lot to ask…. but when I think of my friends and family who have battled cancer, I realize that my bike ride is nowhere near as tough as that. Unfortunately, we all know someone – a family member, friend, colleague, parent, child – who has been affected by this disease. Truly, cancer does not discriminate.

What makes the picture shown to the left (if you can see it) here so special is that Dad (left) recovered from late stage cancer of the bladder in 2005 and at the age of 70 has built himself back up to a point where he led my brothers Doug, Dave and me (right) through Tuscany on a nearly 200 mile bike trip in the spring of 2009. Not everyone is so lucky… and that’s why I’m riding this race again (and why Boloco is again a Bronze Wheel Sponsor with hundreds of burritos being served on site!)

It is my goal to raise $10,000 personally which matches the donation our Boloco team is already giving to this wonderful event and cause. I know times are challenging, but I sincerely hope you can help. If you sponsored me last year when I did 50 miles, thank you (and please consider DOUBLING since I’m DOUBLING my miles!!) If this is your first time, thank you in advance for joining the fight and for giving me the motivation to mash those pedals and cross the finish line.
Please visit Pepper’s Prouty Page at http://cli.gs/Y0YjJQ to donate. All donations are tax deductible and need to be turned in by July 7.

FINALLY, for fun, and because last year I got a special jacket due to the amount I raised, I’ve allocated a few Boloco items to the most ambitious donors:

    Donations of $100 or more:
Limited Edition “Fenway Park” Boloco Card with 4 free items loaded onto it (OR, if you don’t live near a Boloco, your choice of a t-shirt, hat, or special boloco pong balls (2))

    Donations of $500 or more:
In addition to the above, a pair of TWO short stemless wine or scotch glasses with “boloco” and “2009” etched on each side

Again, to donate, please visit Pepper’s Prouty Page

Together, I know we can make a difference in the fight against cancer. Thank you for your support!
