Pan-Mass Challenge Rider: James Scott

James’ PMC profile page: http://www.pmc.org/profile/JS0437

James is a 37-year-old software manager and amateur bike racer. He rode his first PMC in 2006, and has ridden the 192-mile Sturbridge to Provincetown route every year since then. He lives in Canton with his wife, two kids, and an assortment of bicycles.

Why I ride?

I ride with Team Pedals for Pediatrics to honor the memory of Cian Crowley and support the families of children battling cancer. Cian was born in March of 2006 and was diagnosed with neuroblastoma soon after I completed my first PMC in August of that year. He underwent treatment at Children’s Hospital Boston, but succumbed to his disease in October, after just seven months of life. Through Cian’s mother I learned of the Pedals for Pediatrics team, which directs its PMC donations to programs that support patients and families at Dana-Farber Cancer Center and Children’s Hospital. I joined the team on my third PMC in 2008. The team has raised over a million dollars since it was founded in 2004, using that money to fund programs ranging from research grants and patient education programs to lodging assistance for families traveling to Boston for treatment.
