Pan-Mass Challenge Rider: Lena Joseph

Lena’s PMC profile page: http://www.pmc.org/profile/MJ0062

I ride because it is the one thing I CAN do when cancer leaves us feeling helpless.

I am so excited to be riding in my 3rd consecutive Pan-Mass Challenge. This year, along with TEAM LEGS, I will ride from Sturbridge to P-Town during the first weekend in August. The ride totals 192 miles; the most for me, yet, and the most challenging. I hope you will support me or another rider this year. It’s an amazing event which raises money for the Dana Farber Cancer Clinic!

While I ride, I include the names of those whom I ride for on a laminated card on my back. If you would like me to include the name of someone special, please let me know by August 1st and I will ride in that person’s honor or memory.

Lena is the love of my life. She was struck by a car on July 13th while out on a training ride for this year’s PMC. Since that time, she has endured 3 surgeries, and is scheduled for a 4th in the next week and several months of recovery. She will not pedal this year, but we’d love for her to “finish her ride” for Team LEGS pedal partner, Emily, and for Dana Farber and their good work.

Throughout this horrible experience, she has celebrated the blessings of surviving the accident and enjoying the world-class medical care here in Boston. Prior to regaining her voice, she wrote on a whiteboard “better than cancer,” and this is why she is loved by so many of us.

Lena looks forward to entering nursing school on time this fall, and further building on her career of caring for others as a pre-school teacher, Child Life Specialist, and as a mother of two.
