Last week’s Pairing is Caring event at the Burlington Boloco on Church St. was a great time. Burritos, beer… what could be better? Oh, right- burritos, beer, AND supporting a great charity (icouldbe.org) at the same time! Here’s what the Burlington Free Press’s “Inside Dish” had to say about it:

Boloco and Magic Hat joined forces Monday night at the “Pairing is Caring” event to introduce the burrito joint’s new Spicy BLT Burrito (made with Vermont lettuce, tomatoes and bacon) and the Burlington brewery’s fall line-up. The “caring” part of that equation was that the $25 ticket price supported the online mentoring organization icouldbe.org, which matches community members with at-risk adolescents to help them learn to navigate through college and job applications, and become successful adults.

“This night is the kick-off of our Vermont campaign to help us bring a program to a Vermont school with a majority of lower-income students,” explained icouldbe.org executive director Kate Schrauth, who discussed the program with event attendees. Once the organization raises $8,000, it will accept online community votes to help determine which Vermont school will receive the support services.

Addressing the crowd at the 5:30 seating, Schrauth smiled and said, “Of course, tonight I know that you’re really here for the burritos!” There were eight types to try, along with four offerings from Magic Hat. The Memphis barbecue along with the new fall smoky Hex ale, and the coriander and bitter-orange scented Odd Notion with the Teriyaki Chicken were considered a favorite match.
