We had never opened in a hospital environment, let alone in the belly of a parking garage, but were approached aggressively by a broker who represented Children’s Hospital. It was another small space and, at the time, seemed preposterously expensive, but we were eventually comforted that we would be building at the same time as our neighbor, Starbucks (and we all know Starbucks never chooses poor real estate, right??) For the first two years, we knew we had blown it… a true “dog”, maybe not covered with fleas, but almost. And yet, right when we were down to almost no hope, something changed – picture the Grinch when he first heard the Who’s in Whoville singing. That kind of change. Slowly but surely, Children’s began to show signs of life, and in 2008, despite its “baby” status (<1500SF), it had risen to the top of the Boloco family.
