When we took over this restaurant in the early months of 1998, it had actually been a short-lived wrap competitor. Sales and customers were scarce. Really scarce. And changing the name to “The Wrap” from “Wrap Culture” didn’t do a thing to help. Most savvy biz people would have closed down after 6 months… good thing we weren’t savvy. Being on the same block as legendary institutions Pino’s, Eagle’s Deli, and across the street from Maryanne’s, we weren’t going to go easily (plus, it’s really hard to get out of 10 year leases without losing your shirt) – plus, our location was allegedly one of the first five Boston Chicken locations (hey, if they could make it big, so could we!). We stuck it out and despite some big, mean, national competitors encroaching on our turf, Cleveland Circle became our first Seabiscuit story.
